PEOPLE FOR CHILDREN
Our principal project launched in 2004 was created to educate, denounce and abolish human trafficking and modern day slavery, with special emphasis on children. As advocates of human rights, we aim to serve as a catalyst for awareness, raising efforts on the grave issues regarding child exploitation.
Our goal is to syndicate Public Service Announcements and create initiatives geared toward the elimination of sex trafficking, commercial sexual exploitation, prostitution, debt bondage, forced labor, sex slavery, among other forms of slavery. UNICEF estimates that 1.2 million children are trafficked worldwide every year.
In order to provide solutions through the creation of holistic centers that will serve children as a safe haven from exploitation. We aim to open our first Center in September 2011. As a public foundation, we rely on the generosity of corporations and individuals to achieve our goals on behalf of children's rights.
OUR OBJECTIVES
- Advocating for the protection of the rights of victims of trafficking against all forms of exploitation.
- Educating the public on the national, regional and international scope of the problem of human trafficking through Public Service Announcements, briefings and massive awareness programs and through our website.
- Collaborating with academic institutions, government agencies, advocacy groups and NGO's in the development and implementation of solutions to the problems relating to the exploitation of children.
- Assisting advisors to policymakers, legislative bodies, governmental agencies and international organizations on the status of domestic and international trafficking.
- Promoting model legislation in adopting effective legislative measures for the prevention, control and criminalization of trafficking.
- Supporting practical training for law enforcement personnel about the techniques and resource available to victims.
"Trafficking in Persons in Puerto Rico: An Invisible Challenge", the first research conducted in Puerto Rico regarding this modern scourge spearheaded by the Ricky Martin Foundation in partnership with the University of Puerto Rico (Rio Piedras Campus) and The Protection Project at Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. The three-year investigation carried out by sociologist and President our Board, Dr.Rey and Dr. Hernandez Angueira was possible thanks to the support of DACO and Doral Bank. The present study provides the reader with an in-depth exploration of the problem of human trafficking, includes commercial sexual exploitation , labor exploitation and so called "purchased marriages".

Call and Live, the first anti-trafficking regional campaign in the Americas with the InterAmerican Development Bank (IDB) and the International Organization for Migration. The same has been deployed in Ecuador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, the Latino Community in DC and Mexico State. With our Public Service Announcements millions of people today know how to prevent falling prey to this horrific crime. We have received over 55,000 relevant phone calls, fostered hundreds of investigations and saved dozens of lives. For further information visit www.llamayvive.org. Also in partnership with the IDB, the RMF has an educational initiative dubbed Yo Amo América that promotes the importance of birth registration in the Americas. A child without a birth certificate is invisible to society. Please visit www.yoamoamerica.org for further information.
The Alliance to End Human Trafficking and Slavery: Since 2006, RMF has been member of a larger coalition of anti-trafficking known as ATEST, a US based non-partisan legislative coalition of complementary organizations dedicated to developing a specific and time-bound policy for abolishing this modern scourge.
